For those who remember the famous Port Albert Hotel, recently, an old article published on Facebook by Gippsland Times (editor Peter Hill) had reappeared. We thought it was appropriate for locals to remember the pub and all the great times had here.
Gippsland's oldest port Port Albert is losing its historic hotel.
The best efforts of the district's volunteer fire brigades look unlikely to be able to save the 140 year old hotel. The alarm was raised about 8pm with 16 brigades racing to the scene, but the old two storey weatherboard structure was well alight before the local brigade was able to make an impact. It is believed today was the hotel's final day of trading under its current licence and the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
