Let’s be honest, when someone says “community association,” most of us immediately picture long meetings, piles of paperwork, and endless discussions about who’s bringing the biscuits.

But that’s NOT what being part of the Port Albert Progress Association (PAPA) is about!

We’re all about fun, friendship, and community spirit with zero red tape and no scary commitments.

If you can spare an hour or two every now and then, we’d love for you to join in. Whether you’ve lived in Port Albert your whole life or you’ve recently moved here or nearby, there is a place for you with PAPA.

So, What Does PAPA Actually Do?

PAPA has been representing our amazing seaside community since 1880 - yep, that’s over 140 years of locals getting together to make Port Albert a better, brighter, and more welcoming place.

Our volunteers are a mix of residents, local businesses, and community groups who love seeing the town come alive with activity.

We organise local events, raise funds for community facilities, and work with councils and advocacy groups to support local planning and development.

But for our everyday volunteers - that’s you! it’s really just about bringing people together and creating great local events that families, visitors, and locals can all enjoy.

Why Volunteers Matter

Port Albert has been growing, and we’re seeing more young families move into the area, raising kids who love the water, walking trails, the hall, and our local events.

When you help out, even for just an hour or two, you’re helping create the memories those families will treasure, the laughter at the Easter Fun Day, the sparkle in kids’ eyes during the New Year’s fireworks, and the buzz of our community gatherings.

It’s not about giving up your weekends. It’s about making a small contribution that has a big impact on the place we all call home.

What Kind of Things Could You Do?

We’re not asking you to take on big jobs (unless you want to of course!).Sometimes we just need a hand with the simple stuff, like:

Decorating the hall for an event.
Handing out flyers.
Helping with a raffle.
Serving a sausage or a drink.
Shaking the donation tin.
Registering guests at an event.

You tell us what you enjoy and how much time you’ve got - we’ll find the perfect fit!

We do the BEST Events

We’ve got some fantastic community favourites that you can get involved in:

Local raffles & competitions.
Easter Family Fun Day (part of the Tarra Festival).
ANZAC Day & Australia Day events.
New Year’s Eve Fireworks.
Plus, fun social gatherings at the Port Albert Hall — think AFL Grand Final Day, Melbourne Cup Lunch, Live Music Nights, and even Art Events!

There’s always something happening, and it’s always a good time.

As part of the wider community, PAPA also collaborates with groups like:

Yarram and District Progress Association.

Middle of Everywhere.
