Port Albert Progress Association Reaffirms Event Partnership, Securing the Future of Port Albert’s Iconic New Year’s Eve Fireworks Event.

The Port Albert Progress Association (PAPA) is pleased to announce a strengthened partnership with Wellington Shire Council and its destination marketing, lifestyle and events arm, The Middle of Everywhere, for the Port Albert New Year’s Eve Fireworks Event.

This partnership reflects the shared commitment between community and Council to ensure one of the region’s most iconic celebrations continue to thrive and remain sustainable for years to come.

The Port Albert New Year’s Eve Fireworks Event, facilitated by the Port Albert Progress Association (PAPA) for the last seven years has grown into one of the most significant New Year celebrations in Wellington Shire.

In 2025, the event attracted approximately 5,000 attendees, the largest crowd in the event’s history, reinforcing its importance as a major regional gathering.

Delivered as a free, family-focused community event, the celebration generates substantial social, cultural and economic benefits for not only Port Albert, but the broader Wellington Shire and the Gippsland region, with visitors travelling from as far as Melbourne to attend.

The event offers a vibrant and inclusive program designed for families and visitors of all ages, featuring:

• Up to 30 local market stalls

• Approximately 15 food vendors

• Five free children’s activities

• A free community celebration with family-friendly programming culminating in the New Year’s Eve fireworks spectacular

• Strong sponsorship & supporter commitments.

As Wellington Shire Council’s destination marketing, lifestyle and events arm, The Middle of Everywhere brings proven expertise in supporting and promoting large-scale regional events, including the highly successful ANZAC Week Airshow.

This experience, combined with Council’s infrastructure, regulatory oversight and established networks, positions The Middle of Everywhere and Wellington Shire Council as ideal strategic partners to help PAPA evolve the Port Albert New Year’s Eve Fireworks into a sustainable regional event.

PAPA has long maintained a strong and collaborative relationship with Wellington Shire Council. This strengthened partnership builds on that foundation, aligning community-led event delivery with Council’s broader strategic objectives around tourism growth, economic development, community wellbeing and place activation across the Shire.

This partnership also provides increased confidence for the event’s additional sponsors, ensuring greater brand visibility and recognition across Wellington Shire and beyond as the event continues to expand its reach.
